The West Lancs TrainerWe are pleased to announce a new tour which will see us visit the fleet of Together Travel based near Kirkby, Merseyside on Saturday 19th August. This trip is operated by Nik Anthony and the plan has been devised to allow us to enjoy journeys on five Olympians from this fleet which includes three buses not in regular passenger use since 2003 when they were made into driver training vehicles. As always with Nik’s trip we will be taking the buses along routes which rarely, if ever, see scheduled double deck operation.
We have requested the following four vehicles;
Former Luton and District Alexander bodied Leyland Olympians G657UPP
Former Stagecoach United Counties NCME bodied Leyland Olympian K656UNH
Former London General NCME bodied Volvo Olympians P909RYO, P914RYO and R347LGH
All vehicles are subject to availability on the day, the fleet also contains former London General NCME bodied Volvo Olympian R337LGH which may substitute if needed. During each run we will stop somewhere suitable to allow passengers to photograph the vehicle and there will be time to see and photograph the other vehicles in the fleet at the depot.
There will be two pick-ups on this trip, the first will be at 09:30 outside Kirkby railway station. This station is served by Merseyrail running every 15 minutes and also by a less frequent service from Manchester Victoria - we will await the arrival of the 0814 Manchester to Kirkby which can be joined at Wigan Wallgate at 0855. We will be touring for a couple of hours on this first vehicle and passengers can join us at the second pick-up at 1030 at Earlestown railway station at the bus stop in Railway Street right outside the station but please note there is no corresponding drop off here at the end of the day, joining us at Earlestown will mean you won’t miss any vehicles. Shorter second and fourth runs will be taken around the area, our third run is a longer trip out to the coast including a lunch break in Formby. The fifth run will take us around St Helens and there will be an option to leave us there if you wish, we expect to pass St Helens Junction station at around 1710 and our final drop off will be back at Kirkby station at around 1735 but please do not rely on us making the 1742 train if heading towards Manchester.
The fare for the entire day of travelling is £15 for all passengers and you don't need to pre-book or reserve a place on our trips, simply turn up on the day, hop on the bus and your friendly conductor will collect your fare during the journey. There is no requirement to be a member of any particular group or society to join this trip, nor do you require an invitation to join us. Our trip is a private hire and the operator will NOT be able to answer any questions or enquiries- if you require any further information or you have any questions please e-mail nik280 (at) btinternet.com (substitute the correct @ symbol!). Please don’t contact the operator directly as they will not be able to answer your enquiry.
I sincerely look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on this trip, please forward this message onto anyone else who you think may be interested and please cut and paste into other news groups if you think it might interest their members.Nik Anthony
