Saturday 5th May - The Thame Time Traveller

The Thame Time Traveller

I’m very pleased to announce details of a new trip which will take include travel on seven different Olympians none of which are believed to have previously worked on such trips – a rare feat in 2018 I’m sure you will agree! This trip will operate on Saturday 5th May and will see us visit the fleet of Walters Limos based near Oxford. I have requested the use of the following vehicles subject to availability;

TIL6571 Leyland Olympian/Alexander new to Kowloon Motor Bus as DD4385

TIL6572 Leyland Olympian/Alexander new to Kowloon Motor Bus as DJ3850

TIL6573 Leyland Olympian/Alexander new to Kowloon Motor Bus as DJ1454

F845ENV Leyland Olympian/Leyland new to Isle Of Man as BMN88G

H809AGX Leyland Olympian/Leyland new to Metrobus, Orpington

L952MSC Volvo Olympian/Alexander new to Lothian Regional Transport

M225VSX Volvo Olympian/Alexander new to Lothian Regional Transport

I’m sure many of you shared my frustration by our inability to use any of the mighty 12 metre Kowloon Motor Bus “3BL” Class Olympians imported directly by ITG/MASS during their Brightbus era so we are especially pleased to present these on an enthusiast tour for the first time. Should any of the above vehicles be unavailable its place will be taken by either P353ROO or R358XVX, both Volvo Olympian/East Lancs for a shorter run.

There are TWO pick up points and there will be NO parking available at the depot so don’t try and park there. The first pick up will at 0930 at the Thornhill Park and Ride site which is located near postcode OX3 8DP and is on the A40 on the East side of the city convenient for the M40, you can park here for up to 11 hours for just £2. The second pick-up will be outside Oxford’s main railway station at 0955. During the day we will undertake mainly rural trips around the Southern and Eastern fringes of Oxford and our lunch break will be taken in Thame.  Drop-offs at the end of the day on the last vehicle will be at around 1745 near Oxford rail station and 1810 at Thornhill Park and Ride.

During the day we will have a chance to look around the depot to see and photograph the rest of the buses in the fleet and each journey will stop for a photo of the vehicle away from the depot.

The fare for this trip is set at £20 for all passengers. This is a Leyland Olympians Yahoo Group trip reverting to the format not used since August 2016 of maximising the number of vehicles rather than focussing on unusual road coverage. You don't need to pre-book or reserve a place; simply turn up on the day, hop on the bus and your friendly conductor will collect your fare during the journey. There is no requirement to be a member of any particular group or society to join this trip, nor do you require an invitation to join us. Our trip is a private hire and the operator will NOT be able to answer any questions or enquiries- if you require any further information or you have any questions please e-mail me at chrismartin13601 (at) and I will be happy to help.

We sincerely look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on this trip, please forward this message onto anyone else who you think may be interested and please cut and paste into other news groups or regional social media groups if you think it might interest their members.

Chris Martin
